Custom-DNS changes not working due to HTTP-Error 500 "Internal Server Error"

Hi,

if I try to edit existing DNS-Entries, I mostly receive the following error:

500 Internal Server Error

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there is an error in the application.

but sometimes (maybe 2 out of 10 tries), I receive “OK” but the entries won’t get updated, but the Webinterface claims they’re. I’m confused.
I always check if they got updated via “dig @myserver.com $mydomain”

My server is surely not the strongest, but there should be enough CPU and Memory for changing a DNS-Entry, I guess.
I am running the latest version of mail-in-a-box on Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS with a 3.13.0-68-generic Kernel.

Any hints? I really need to update my DNS.

Thanks in advance,
Kamillo

Hi,

i just figured out that I receive this error with other actions, too.
For Example: archiving a users account

Any idea?

Make sure permissions are set properly on all files, also maybe a reinstall or look in a log file under /var/log will help (nginx’s logs and dmesg, etc)

Thanks, this is a brand new virgin install from scratch, and subsequent migration from an old server. This internal server error issue appears to go back to 2015, looking at error reports on the forum.

Is there a document, or script, that sets correct permissions?

There’s a solution for this user at the end of the thread.
