Can I still do that? Or wil lthere be any problems?
What would you recommend for a discourse forum, MiaB or would amazon SES be the better choice?
Thanks in advance. The installation was an epic expirience. I still don’t get all the stuff around DNS and SSL but it gets clearer everytime I come in touch with it.
No, you can’t, unless you understand SPF, DKIM, and DMARC well enough to set custom DNS records.
You can, however, use any subdomain of a domain managed by your box (as long as that subdomain is not also managed by the box). (This is because the box’s DMARC records currently do not cover subdomains, although this may change.) It is still advisable to set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC through custom DNS records, however.
The best thing would actually be to just pipe your mail through your box, i.e. use your box as your transactional mail server instead of Amazon SES.
The problem I would have then is, that I can’t use sendy anymore, cause it works only with amazon SES and the MiaB isn’t made to send newsletters (or is it?).
So I don’t have to worry to use amazon SES if I get it right with custom DNS records. And is it okay to use nate@domain.com as a user in MiaB and at the same time send with this email with amazon SES a newsletter, is this even possible? Or should I use two different email adresses or better even, two different domains/subdomains?
I hope I wrote that clear. Sorry, its all really new to me, but I have to make sure, that I don’t do something wrong. Thanks!

That’s for you to decide once you figure out SPF, DKIM, and DMARC! (This is why email is such a pain in the neck.)

It won’t hurt. Whether it’s any better depends on the circumstances.
Okay, just one last question for today: Can I use discourse.com for a discourse forum on droplet1 at DO, with MiaB on droplet2 on DO and than use team@discourse.com to send e-mails through the MiaB. Should be possible. A yes and no is absolutely okay, if yes, I wll figure it out by myself how it works, you mentioned something like piping through the box.
this is EXACTLY the situation I am in. I was going to submit a new topic until I found this one. I know it is marked solved but I am not exactly sure I have the details clear enough for me to feel comfortable moving forward.
here is my situation:
registrarar: godaddy
dns: route53
web server: wordpress on load balanced ec2 instances with msql in RDS on AWS. we use plugins to send form info via email to our email (i.e. wxb@fxla.com sends form data from fxla.com to ixxo@fxla.com). this can be changed to whatever method is most reliable.
mail server: not setup yet but have MIAB ready to go on VULTR 2GB Storage instance. (i set up MIAB on a different domain and it works nearly flawlessly).
sendy (this is most important as this is such an important piece of our business.).
for example above: I changed the “w” to “x” in the domain name above to deter bots.
