[SIMPLE CLARIFICATION REQUEST]- TLS/SSL With Multiple Domains

Hello there everyone!

I have a server whose box name is like this mail.boxname.com. I have successfully installed the Let’s Encrypt Certificate for that domain.

If I don’t want to move full control of DNS for these other domains to mail.boxname.com, will the emails still be secured by TLS/SSL? I’m assuming that they will since any SMTP client will be connecting to the box’s hostname instead of @otherdomain.com.

Thank you in advance.

Yes. The secure connection is with mail.boxname.com, not the individual domains.

Thank you for clarifying. :beers:

Not always true, if your MIAB server both hosts email AND web, you can use:

box.miabdomain.com
domain1.com
domain2.com

When I was hosting with MIAB that’s what I would tell clients:

“Use domain.com as SMTP, IMAP and WEB” The only thing here is that you will ALWAYS need box.miabdomain.com/cloud for NextCloud.

domain1.com/webmail will also work.

This all stems from MIAB server hosting both email and WEB though.
