It probably is staring me right in the face, but how do I remove a secondary name server from a domain hosted by MIAB?
This domain has 2 secondary name servers set. One of these is Gandi, where it also was registered. But as Gandi has decided to make the Fortune 500 this year (€38,- for the registration of a simple .eu domain) I registered this domain elsewhere.
Now I (obviously) get an error from MIAB: Secondary nameserver ns6.gandi.net is not configured to resolve this domain.
So I need to get ns6.gandi.net out of the nsd configuration for this domain only. But how?
EDIT: I see I can remove ns6.gandi.net as a secondary on the custom DNS page; does that mean that I can only set a secondary for all or for none of the domains the box is serving? Or does that work per domain?
You go to your (new) domain registrar, and remove ns6.gandi.net from the list of nameservers for this domain
You remove ns6.gandi.net from the secondary nameserver on the Custom Dns page (you already found that)
This setting applies to all the domains the box is serving. In practice it influences the status checks that MiaB performs, and it makes sure that the actual Secondary DNS server is allowed to access your box’s DNS records. This means it does not hurt that it applies to domains for which you did not configure the secondary DNS.
I have a couple of other domains at Gandi that I need to remove this month. After that I’ll remove ns6.gandi.net as a secondary nameserver from the Custom DNS page.
