Remote (SSHFS/NFS) /home/user-data/

Did anyone try (to save space on his VPS, or $ to pay for expensive extra storage)
and to mount “/home/” or “/home/user-data/” from somewhere else via SSHFS or NFS or similar?

Would it work?

How much would it impact running of MIAB?

One drawback I can think of is the extra data throughput …

I did look into this, but in the end never tested it. I think normally this works well, but I’m worried about (silent) data loss in case of a network disruption. It requires serious study of mount options etc and I also have no good way to test the network interruptions.
If I ever need more space I’ll upgrade my VPS, change supplier, or buy an additional block storage device from my current host. That would also make it possible to add file system level compression, which also helps a lot for emails.
