Puck.nether.net Internal Server Error

Again … and no response from the admin. I have send him 3 mail and nothing
What happend with this guy?
I would pay for a good service but this site is not normal.
Hope the guy is well and not death as his login site
Is there a good alternative for puck net?

There are a few free secondary DNS providers around, check google. I’ve tried https://freedns.afraid.org/ - it’s a bit clunky and you need to confirm your existence every 6 months, but it works.

Gandi.net provide secondary DNS for domains registered with them. They’re expensive but you do get more than the bare minimum. Try your registrar.

Thx andrew!

do you know whats the problem with puck net?

br,
rowie

Their server is still providing (secondary) DNS services for me, but the login is broken.

They did have some kind of major problems a while ago. The secondary DNS took a long time to come back (weeks/months) so I guess that providing that free service is a low priority :expressionless:

Pity - but I don’t think I’m prepared to offer such services myself. And anyway, I can’t be my own secondary

I switched from puck to afraid back when puck just went silent for an extended period of time. Problem with afraid is, a couple times a week I get a status email showing timeout errors. For now I’ll stick with it, but I’m wondering if it’s better to have no secondary than a secondary that’s occasionally not working.

I see timeouts too with my ISP, I don’t worry too much about this as it only lasts for a few minutes typically in the middle of the night.

It’s also possible to have multiple secondaries. I use three: puck, afraid.org and Hetzner. Other alternatives are FreeDNS - No limits, free of charge, DYNDNS, DNSSEC, TLSA and more. https://dns.he.net/ and https://www.buddyns.com/ and there are plenty more.

Hi I have used Hurricane for many many months now ever since PUCK went offline and have not had one single issue.

Hurricane does not support DNSSEC

Hi,

what do you guys think about deSEC dot io?

br,
rowie

They look interesting, but last time I looked they didn´t support secondary DNS by way of AXFR.

Damn, you’re right.

is it enough to add the third one via webinterface like:

?

afraid.org said:
Transfer completed: 0 messages, 0 records, 0 bytes, 0.127 secs (0 bytes/sec)
: Transfer status: REFUSED

btw: the login on pucknet is working again!

No, you also need to allow access by adding axfr:69.65.50.192 axfr:2001:1850:1:5:800::6b
And of course add ns2.afraid.org as a nameserver at your domain registtar

[FIXED] Where do i have to set this afxr record?

Sorry mate! To early in the morning!
Setting the xfr record in den dns section of MiaB solves my problem!

Last question!
Do you use “Manage AXFR Allow ACLs” at afraid.org?

Or is the default setting secure enough?
Normaly you would only enter the IP of your master right?

I don’t use it. I think that is meant for syncing with afraid.org servers, similarly to you telling the MiaB box to allow axfr. MiaB has axfr entry to allow afraid.org to sync with the box. Afraid has axfr section to allow other dns servers to sync with afraid.org.
