I saw owncloud is working on a built in mail client. I was wondering if this may end up being a default instead of roundcube. Since we are using it for calendar and contacts. Seems like a good move to have full integration of mail, contacts and calendar.

It’s too early to use their mail client, but there’s some discussion on it here: https://github.com/mail-in-a-box/mailinabox/issues/169
As I pointed out in the issue above I believe it can only be of mutual benefit to cooperate with ownCloud and drive the integration of their Mailclient forward.
Maybe this can even be a milestone, even if it might turn out to be almost a blocker. But that’d be worth it.
Has anyone successfully installed and tried the current version of ownCloud Mail?
Just clone this repo into your apps directory. Additionally you need Composer to install dependencies:
