MIAB using ActiveSync wants to be Device Administrator?

I have used Android’s Email app with MIAB using ActiveSync for months. Out of the blue, it now wants admin access over the device before giving access to my email (see screenshot). I have not upgraded MIAB since the original install (v 0.25). Is this expected behavior? Can it be disabled?

Exchange / ActiveSync requires this feature. It is harmless so long as your server is very secure (Public Key auth, long passwords, etc,etc)
