Noticed that when i was setting up mail-in-a-box it downloaded a DNS server, and on the namecheap page it had a option to add my own DNS server, do i point namecheap at the server’s ip? Sorry if i dont know much about this, ive never worked with Mail at all, or dns much.
Read here to setup own DNS servers:
Make 2 A records >> ns1.box and ns2.box
Enter your own DNS servers ns1.box.yourdomain.com and ns2.box.yourdomain.com as per the instructions above
Read the setup guide: Mail-in-a-Box Setup Guide
Glue records are ns1.box and ns2.box
Conversely, you can use Namecheap nameservers but you must copy and paste all important records found in AdminPage >> ExternalDns >> https://box.somedomain.org/admin#external_dns
And yes MIAB contains its own DNS server.
