Can IMAP/SMTP domain be different from sender domain?

Since I’ll have to upgrade mailinabox to a new Ubuntu 22.04 server, I want to make some changes. Domains A.com and B.com will be moved to the server with a new IP address on that box.

I have multiple sender domains (A.com, B.com) and IMAP/SMTP are pointing to mail.A.com. It doesn’t make sense to B.com users. I want to fix this.

So I am thinking I should create C.com to be the IMAP/SMTP domain and A.com and B.com users will connect to mail.C.com as the mail server.

Is it possible within mailinabox configuration? Thanks.

Curtis

You can use any valid hostname for any domain that you control.
(Within reason, www would be a bad choice for example).

What you are referring to as the “IMAP/SMTP domain” is actually the mail server “hostname”.
