Best python text editor or IDE

Howdy JD and MIABers, I made a mistake of navigating over to python.org w/ my new found interest in python.

There is an enormous table of python test editors, IDEs and associated descriptions.

To help me decide other than trying every single one of them any and all suggestions welcomed.

I have been predominately a Java/ANSI C developer on Unix/Linux for 25+ years using of course the 2 main Java IDEs: Intellij and Eclipse.

Please advise, David.

I’ve only ever flirted with Python but one of my favorite editor for scripted and markup languages is Atom, which supports Python along with many other languages.
