I think the answer is no, but could someone confirm for me if I can add only @mail.example.com to mail in a box while @example.com, its DNS records and nameserver is handled by another server elsewhere? I want to send emails using @mail.example.com
coz MIAB is complaining about nameservers which I don’t think can be set for subdomains… maybe I should just copy all the MIAB DNS records into the external server
well, here is what I do and it works fine. my “box” has a “throw away domain” so example would be main box is robertredford.com this can have both mail.robertredford.com and robertredford.com now, I can add a sub domain like test.example.com to that server. I also dont use the dns of the box in either case. I change my dns records manually via whatever the domain lives (ie. godaddy, cloudflare, etc) there are a lot of entires you have to put in correctly. what helps is you go to “System” then “External DNS” and you copy those records manually of that page to your domain registrar. In some cases you can just down the zone file and modify it manually for what you want and upload it to your registrar but I would really do this manually.
I have may “subdomain” domains that I handle with the box though, it works completely fine.
