1 Web Server - 1 MIAB Server - Does This Work?

Hi,

I have a 1 VPS which runs my website. I have a domain linked to it and DNS comes from the domain registrar too.

I would be putting MIAB on a separate server (as advised) but can my domain, that’s on the Web VPS, also manage the MIAB VPS? I didn’t really want to get another domain for the MIAB VPS, when I have the one I want already.

How can this be achieved?

Thank you.

That’s exactly the way must be done… Just note you will control your DNS for your domain (and additional domains you may wish to add in the future) through the MiaB server and not through your current web server …

  • Create your MiaB server (Min. 1 CPU with 768Mb RAM but 1 CPU with 1Gb recommended)
  • Use your current domain by creating its box.yourdomain.com
  • Create additional yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.com (note you will manage your DNS’s through your Miab server now)
  • Finally create custom DNS A records in the MiaB admin panel for yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.com pointing to your ‘other server’ IP address.

Step-by-Step guide & video tutorial available here: https://mailinabox.email/guide.html . This one may be of help, too: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-run-your-own-mail-server-with-mail-in-a-box-on-ubuntu-14-04

Hope this helps!

Ah I see now,

So I have to manage the DNS through MiaB and point the A records to my Web Server…

Cool.

Thanks!
