Rainloop web-based e-mail client

I’ve read about Rainloop (another web-based e-mail client, link) before, but it was shot down because it wasn’t available for commercial parties that are using MAIB. It is however a very good webmail e-mail client, not as visually bulky as Roundcube.

I saw that the basic version is available under the AGPLv3 license, which allows for commercial or
non-personal use. So maybe it could be an alternative for Roundcube?

Installation guide:

  • SSH to your box
  • Become a owncloud admin user: https://github.com/mail-in-a-box/mailinabox/blob/master/tools/owncloud-unlockadmin.sh
  • Wget the community edition of Rainloop from http://www.rainloop.net/downloads/ to the folder /usr/local/lib/owncloud/apps
  • unzip rainloop.zip in the current folder. It will create a rainloop folder in the apps
  • chmod it 755 and chown it www-data recursively
  • Go to the Owncloud admin page, there is a new option called Rainloop webmail.
  • Enable Automatically login with ownCloud user credentials
  • Login into the rainloop admin panel with the user admin and pass 12345
  • Add your e-mail domains and settings to your liking (change the admin login and password!)
  • Don’t forget to enable the Carddav server to be able to use your e-mail address book. The settings are done in the users own settings page.
  • You can now login with your username password at the normal Email app in Owncloud. You might happen to login/logout in owncloud to enable the ‘login with owncloud user credentials’.

Just a note for future readers, since I had to dig around in configuration files as a new user, the ownCLoud admin page can be accessed at box.yourdomain.TLD/cloud

and is specified in mailinabox/setup/owncloud.sh

Once in admin for Owncloud / nextcloud - install rainloop app instead. integrates nicely after admin configures the domains in it!
