All has been resolved and is now working as expected. Many thanks to openletter & alento for pointing me in the right direction.
In the end it turned out to be a misuse of an iptables rule in my router which was written with little sleep. Lessons learnt.
I’m sure i’ll have some fine-tuning questions in the future but for now i’m a happy bunny.
