True that incoming email gets delayed, but only for the first email from each sender. And you can whitelist senders or domains - just add the file /etc/postgrey/whitelist_clients.local
, each line is a domain or IP address.
I think you’ll find most people find greylisting very effective at reducing spam, maybe not 100% but very close. The occasional delayed signup email is annoying, but I get almost zero spam through my MIAB accounts.
PS. Well configured servers normally resend after short (eg. 1 min) but doubling delays, so greylisting usually only delays for a few minutes. If someone has their server set to resend after 2 hrs, it’s more a problem with the sender than a problem with greylisting.
