CloudFlare support?

Ok and the description you are referring to resembles nothing of the following?.

From my understanding its the A record specifically referring to the SOA NS record.

Please helps me understand,. Thanks.

That is because “Glue records” have nothing to do with your image.

This thread has gone completely off the rails … @xyzsco what is YOUR intention here, to use Cloudflare for DNS as you have set it up, or to use MiaB for DNS as @openletter has commented is the norm for most installations? I am seeing in WHOIS that your name servers are set to GoDaddy’s name servers. So PLEASE CLARIFY what your end goal is here.

The concept is the same that the “glue record” performs the function of assigning an IP address to a URL, but it is different from an A record because the glue record is not served by the name server.

The glue record is served by the registrar of the domain. For this reason, you have to create the glue record. After creating the glue record, you put it into the nameserver section of the WHOIS record.

This is just my opinion, but what I think is actually complicating things for you is GoDaddy makes this very complicated to understand due to an intentionally complex interface. Even experienced users are fooled by their interface. In comparison, it is all on one simple page over at Namecheap. I suspect in less time than it has taken to not resolve this issue with GoDaddy, you could have transferred your domain to Namecheap and have your server up and running.

My question has a yes or no answer, if you feel gracious, a simple yes or no will do, in lieu of my understanding on how to configure MiaB.

This is the question I was addressing.

Uhh, id just like to know how to use your software.

Sorry i replied to alento, i didn’t see your post, let me read it…

Sorry, but it doesn’t. @openletter explained in his response to you the nuance of it.

I sent you a PM, please respond to it rather than simply liking it.

It would also help if YOU would respond to this comment/question … CloudFlare support? - #24 by alento

The first step will be creating what everyone except for GoDaddy calls a glue record or a custom name server record.

I don’t have a GoDaddy account, so I can’t explain how to actually accomplish this step-by-step in their interface. You might do better to actually call them on the phone and explain to them that you need a custom name server record and don’t hang up until they have completed the task for you.

The URLs for the record are the ones recommended by the MiaB install which will be in the dashboard where it states these records are not set. This example does not use your actual domain, but this is an example if you configured MiaB using example.com then MiaB will automatically recommend using box.example.com as the server hostname (note: this specific hostname is to do with your server and not anything in the GoDaddy interface, where they incorrectly and confusingly use the phrase ‘host name’) and then MiaB will recommend the glue record domains to be:

ns1.box.example.com
ns2.box.example.com

GoDaddy needs to create a nameserver record that points to the IP address of your MiaB from the URLs above.

Then the WHOIS record will change from this:

$ whois example.com
   Domain Name: EXAMPLE.COM
   Registry Domain ID: 2336799_DOMAIN_COM-VRSN
   Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.godaddy.com

I apologize, let me rephrase a little different.

“From my understanding its the A record specifically referring to the SOA NS record.”

Am I misunderstanding?

I am sorry @xyzsco but I am not going to go in to how the DNS system works. There are other resources for that.

What I will do here in this forum is to help you get your instance of MiaB operational. However, to do so, I need you to answer the question that I originally asked. I will reword it and repeat it again …

Are you wishing to use Cloudflare as the authoritative DNS for the httpbuild.com domain, or your Mail-in-a-Box server?

It’s all good, but thanks for trying.
